Peddamma temple is an abode for Goddess Laxmi who is shown sitting on a lion so called as Santhan Laxmi. The temple is said to be about 150 years old, and the present shape of the temple is built in the year 1993, when the Rajagopuram was built. The word "Peddamma", which consists of two separate words Pedda and Amma, literally mean 'Mother of Mothers' or "The Supreme Mother". There are diiferent legends for this temple, one of the legend says that the Goddess, after putting an end to the demon had come to quench her thirst at the well located at this place. A shepherd later spotted an idol of the goddess at the same place where now the temple stands. The another legend says that a demon named Mahishasur had dethroned Indra, the king of Heavens with the blessings of Lord Brahma that neither man nor can God kill him, owing to which he had became increasingly vindictive. To end his cruelties, with the blessings of the holy Trinity- Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva, Goddess Durga came into being and killed demon Mahishasura in a fierce battle. This temple is famous for 'Bonaalu' festival which take palce during june-july of every year. Mahotsavam and Rathotsavam for goddess are celebrated in february. The Mother is known to shower her blessings on each and every devotee who offers her prayers.
