Chilkur Balaji Temple from its style, structure and appearance, it can be said that the temple was built half a millennium ago with sylvan surroundings. The temple attracts thousands of pilgrims every year. It is located on the banks of Osmansagar at Vikarabad road twenty five kilometers away from Hydrebad is picturesque village of Chikur with hoary temple dedicated to Lord Venkateshwara. This temple is one of the oldest temple in telangana built by Akkanna and Madanna, the uncles of Bhakta Ramdas enjoyed with pomp and glorious days. According to history a devotee of lord Balaji used to visit Tirupathi every year but due to his ill-health he could not visit anymore. One day lorad balaji appeared in his dreams and adivised that there is no need to visit tirupathi, he is in nearby jungle. The devotee went into the jungle in search of the Lord Blaji idol, saw the mole-hill there and started digging it. The axe accidentally struck the Lord Balaji's idol on the forehead and started bleeding profusely. To his surprise there is a voice in the air saying that, "Flood the mole-hill with cow's milk". Doing so Swayambhu idol of Lord Balaji with rare combination of Sridevi and Bhoodevi was found, and with all the due right a temple was build. The devotees who cant visit tirupathi can go to this temple which has same significance. To regain the glory of the temple Ammavaru idol was installed in 1963 with the name "Rajya Lakshmi" signifying the welcomimg event. The unique feature is that the idol will be holding the lotus flowers with three hands and fourth hand position towards the lotus feet which signifies the doctrine of Saranagathi. In India it one of the temple which do not accept any donations and therefore do not fall under endowments department of Government. The temple also has a monthly magazine "Vak" with the cost of only Rs 5.00. The Jeer of Sri Ahobila Mutt visits this temple every time he vist twin cities. For time to time great Acharyas also visit this temple. The festivals Poolangi, Annakota and Brahmothsavams are celbrated very grandly.
